CloudOn Android App

CloudOn Android App

With tablets getting even more popular, some people are increasingly using them not just as an entertainment device but also as for doing certain office tasks. But some of the more common productivity and office tools are not yet available for tablets. The CloudOn Android app is one service that aims to fill the void for the meantime. The CloudOn app allows tablet users to be able to make use of Microsoft Office tools on their Android device. It is a cloud-based service that makes it possible for people to read, edit as well as create Microsoft Office documents like Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on an Android tablet.

HTC picks former AT&T exec Mike Woodward as North American president

HTC picks former AT&T exec Mike Woodward as North American president

HTC has been fighting to get a better relationship with US carriers lately, and it may have just chosen a clever (if roundabout) approach: hire one of their executives. As of today, AT&T's former phone portfolio VP Mike Woodward is now HTC's president of its North American division, reporting directly to worldwide sales head Jason Mackenzie. The new position won't necessarily get him any privileged access, but it certainly gives HTC someone who's well versed in what carriers want out of a device launch.

Google sends Chromebooks to some Best Buy and Dixons stores, starting today

Google is getting serious about spreading the reach of Chromebooks. At its day two I/O keynote, it just revealed that the Chrome OS laptops are in 100 Best Buy retail stores across the US, effective today. British stores are getting a similar amount of care with a Chromebook presence in Dixons stores throughout the UK. We're still waiting on more details, such as which models will grace shelves, but there's good reason to suspect that Samsung's Series 5 550 will be front and center.

While it didn't merit a spot in either keynote, the Google TV platform is also getting an updated version of the Google Play store. Along with a new UI that looks a lot like the one on other Android devices it will have support for purchasing movies, music and TV shows as mentioned yesterday, and also subscription billing. The “Bring Your App to the Big Screen” presentation is still going on, we'll let you know if any other new elements are revealed. There's a new post on the Google TV blog mentioning apps like the one announced by Sirius XM, and the new hardware from partners LG, Sony and Vizio.
