ChatTime offers free calls to 53 countries

ChatTime, a voice communication app for iPhone, is offering free calls between registered ChatTime users in 53 countries. If you've never heard of ChatTime before, it's not a voice over IP (VOIP) application like Skype or Tango. Instead, it uses the voice network of your cellphone, so it works even when data isn't available. I personally think of it as a very fancy electronic calling card that doesn't require me to type in a long series of numbers.

Domino's Pizza has found a unique way to interact with iPad users and sell some pizzas in the process. The pizza restaurant has partnered with Crispin Porter + Bogusky ad agency to develop an app that allows users to make a pizza onscreen and even order them in real life. The Domino's Pizza Hero simulates the experience of its workers as they learn the basics of creating its famous pizzas. As a player, you get to make your own pizza starting from kneading the dough, spreading the sauce, sprinkling the cheese, placing the toppings, and cutting the slices before the timer runs out.

Minecraft creator and Mojang studio head Markus “Notch” Persson said via Twitter that the popular indie sandbox title Minecraft has finally gone gold. The news arrives just four days after the team's previously projected “gone gold” date of November 11, 2011, and three days before the game is officially released at the inaugural (and sold out) MineCon 2011 event in Las Vegas on Friday. Minecraft was originally launched as an alpha on May 17, 2009 and then slipped into beta mode on December 20, 2010.

What HP's Big Bet on WebOS Cost the Company

Photo: Jon Snyder/Wired.com. HP was ready to go to the mattresses in an all-out mobile war against Apple. Instead, HP's TouchPad was prematurely put to sleep, and the company is still nursing its wounds.
In its quarterly earnings report conference call on Monday, HP stated it wrote off approximately $3.3 billion in 2011 fiscal year costs due to “the wind down of HP's WebOS device business.”

That $3.3 billion figure is 2.5 times the amount the company originally paid to acquire Palm in the first place.

HTC reportedly tapped to build Facebook phone, code-named ‘Buffy'

. Last year, there were plenty of rumors that Facebook was working on building a phone of its own. Ultimately, a pair of humdrum devices with a simple “Facebook button” ended up hitting the market, and the rumors stopped… until now. On Monday, AllThingsD said it has learned that Facebook is working closely with HTC on a new phone currently codenamed “Buffy.” The device will supposedly run a modified version of Android that, obviously, will put Facebook's services smack in the faces of its users. The two companies are also working to add support so that developers can write HTML5 apps for the phone.
