There's more to the crown prince king of the Continental GT range than its 616 horsepower, 590 pound-feed, eight-speed transmission, 205-mph top speed and four-second run from zero to 60. The W12 engine has been fitted with an energy recuperation system that optimizes the use of the electrical system and alternator – during deceleration, for instance, energy is stored for use later.

HTC One V makes the leap to Cricket's lineup September 2nd for $270

The One line hasn't seen much carrier love lately, but that's all set to change next month. Beginning September 2nd, the littlest member of that smartphone troupe - the One V - will be hitting Cricket's lineup at $270, no contract necessary, and notching two milestones in the process. Aside from offering subscribers a belated first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, the Sense-skinned 3.7-incher's release also counts as HTC's official hardware debut on the network.

. There's no shortage of people criticizing Microsoft (MSFT) over the decisions it has made with Windows 8 and its Surface tablet, from analysts to OEMs to game developers. And to be fair, I think a good deal of the criticism has merit: the switch from the standard desktop UI to the UI Formerly Known as Metro might indeed be too jarring for many users - the UI may be great for tablets, but it seems to be a complete debacle as a desktop UI. Microsoft might have to do some serious kiss-and-make-up with disgruntled OEMs as well if its Surface tablet doesn't create an instant market for Windows tablets.

Another gem at Nikon's unveiling today is this little Coolpix S01, and by "little" we really mean little. At just 96 grams, this is the smallest and lightest Coolpix device ever but it's still surprisingly usable. But like our hands-on with the Android-powered S800c, we couldn't walk away with any sample photos to judge the S01's image quality. Just a quick recap: here you get a 10-megapixel CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom (29mm to 87mm), 720p video capture, several filter effects and a simple touch interface on a 2.5-inch LCD. We also saw five color options in Hong Kong: pink, black, white, red and silver (fingerprint magnet alert!).

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm designer says lack of LAN is 'just about our philosophy'

At Gamescom last week Owen managed to grab Heart of the Swarm designer David Kim for an update on how the first StarCraft 2 expansion is coming along. Word is it's very nearly done. In fact, Kim mentions that it's "99.5 percent done." The beta is set to arrive "very soon.". Kim said that Heart of the Swarm's single player campaign will be twenty missions long, which is hefty, but most StarCraft 2 players are waiting to see what impact the new multiplayer units will have on the pro-game. One much-requested feature that won't make it into the expansion is LAN support.
