Google Reader revamped

Google Reader revamped

There is a new Google Reader design that was just introduced by the Internet search giant, where it will also sport a bunch of Google+ features for you to enjoy now. Apart from a new look and feel which is cleaner, faster, and nicer to look at, you can also +1 a feed item. Sounds familiar. Yeah, it is somewhat a replacement for the now famous “Like” button from Facebook, where you also have the option to share it with your circles on Google+ in an attempt to wean you off the reliance of the “Share” and “Share with Note” options on other social networks.

Watch the Florida Highway Patrol chase down a speeding Miami cop in his own squad car

You're a Miami police officer, so high-speed blasts down the highway probably aren't anything new to you. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that when you're late to your off-duty moonlighting gig, you'd run your marked, Miami-Dade Police cruiser up to 120 miles per hour through traffic and do whatever it took to clock in on time, right. For officer Fausto Lopez, this also means leading an on-duty Florida Highway Patrol police officer on a five-minute chase down the turnpike when she wanted to pull him over for reckless driving. And since it's hard to get to work in handcuffs, we imagine Lopez didn't make it to his gig at the appointed hour.

Trading site says BlackBerry trade-ins up 80 percent

Have people gone off their BlackBerrys. Earlier this month, BlackBerry users were hit with an outage that lasted several days. It took Research In Motion three full days to restore normal service around the world, and for many users, this just wasn't good enough. We know a couple of folks personally who said that the service problems were the last straw and what prompted them to change phones. However, it seems like a lot of people are deciding to ditch their Blackberrys this month, and not all because of the service outage.

Gadget trade-in website Gazelle reports that BlackBerry trade-ins are up 80 percent in the last week alone.

Bill introduced to give low-volume vehicle manufacturers a break

Low volume vehicle manufacturers may soon find it easier to have their products approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Congressman John Campbell (R-Calif.) has introduced the "Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturer's Act," which aims to introduce a regulatory system specifically designed for companies that build fewer than 1,000 vehicles per year. Currently, it's difficult for boutique carmakers to shoulder the burden of safety and emissions evaluations tied to bringing a new vehicle to market.

A major manufacturer doesn't just show up at Le Mans and hope to race right off the bat. Developing a new car is one thing, but running it is another. And for that, Toyota is turning to Oreca. Oreca is no stranger to Le Mans, as one of the few privateers that's managed to mount a serious challenge against factory efforts from Audi and Peugeot. Its services have also been solicited by automakers looking to challenge various racing classes, including development and production of the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe and the successful campaigning of the Mazda 787B at Le Mans in 1991.

Google Street View comes in pretty handy when you're visiting new cities or planning a trip. You can check out the parking situation near that new restaurant you've been wanting to try, look for landmarks that will help you find your hotel, or plan a route for your weekend cycle. However, with Google's latest update to Street View, you'll also be able to check out the interiors of local businesses. Venture Beat reports that Google has started its pilot phase of photographing the interiors of businesses that volunteer to have their photo taken.

ITG xpPhone 2 to get some Windows 8 love, starts living large in January

Let's be honest: with the size of a brick and a relatively short battery life, it's no surprise that ITG's xpPhone hasn't quite dominated the smartphone market since its launch back in November. In fact, we haven't even seen one in the wild, and we certainly wouldn't have missed it if there ever was one on the street. That said, ITG hasn't given up, as the company's just announced its second-generation Windows-powered smartphone. The reason. Well, interestingly enough, ITG prefers Windows' greater range of compatible software compared to those of mobile OSes, namely Android and iOS.

Man installs smartphone dock in his prosthetic arm

It's an old adage that when life hands you lemons, you should make lemonade. Great advice, but what happens when life hands you a missing limb. Make a smartphone mount. Though far from an insurmountable handicap, Briton Trevor Prideaux was born without a left arm, a not-insignificant inconvenience in our era of increasingly convenient – and hands-on – technology.

Motorola Mobility Ships 4.8 Million Smartphones, 100,000 Tablets in Q3x11

Motorola Mobility posted their third quarter financial results and they probably couldn’t be happier about where they are. Highlights of their release include the fact that they shipped 11.6 million devices this quarter, 4.8 million of which were smartphones and 100,000 of which were tablets. All of that combined to help Motorola rake in $3.3 billion, up 11% from Q3’10. They still lost $32 million but the trend seems to be moving toward a profitable future for Motorola and everything should go even better for them following an approval of the acquisition proposal with Google.

Warner pushes 28-day new release delay on Blockbuster, matches Redbox and Netflix

We suppose it's good news / bad news for Blockbuster. The good news is that after going through bankruptcy and being sold, Warner Bros. has decided it's healthy enough to take on the competition on even ground. The bad news, is that Warner has decided to give Blockbuster the same month long delay the studio loves so much before new movies can be rented out as its competitors, Redbox and Netflix. While Blockbuster has had delays at its kiosks already, being first to get new flicks in stores has been a part of its marketing for a while.

Kia partners with Antenna mag for retro surf-themed Rio

Kia has teamed up with Antenna magazine to create a special surf-themed concept for this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas. The publication turned its attention to the 2012 Kia Rio 5-Door. With a special sunset-metallic paint, custom gold wheels and a wooden front splitter, there's no mistaking the machine as a run-of-the-mill Rio. Inside, the vehicle has been fitted with a special '80s gaming console as well as a vinyl record player and shelves for shoes and swimsuits. Oddly enough, there's no surf rack on top for transporting your boards to and from the beach.
If this isn't the pure essence of SEMA, we don't know what is.
