Apple wins one billion dollars decision in Samsung lawsuit

The Apple vs. Samsung patent trial came to a conclusion today when a Jury has awarded a one billion dollars win in favor of Apple. Samsung was found guilty of (mostly) infringing a number of patents and designs, including “pinch & zoom” (despite prior art), “double-tap zoom”, the iPhone  frontal design, the iPhone back design, just to name the most famous ones. Samsung was not found guilty of infringing on all counts. For example, the Galaxy Tab design ended up being decided in favor of Samsung (that it does not infringe the iPad design).

Audi Quattro model to return in time for 35th anniversary?

The Audi Quattro Concept revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show has, quietly, been trying to get enough traction to make a real run at production. The last we heard about it was April 2011, when the prototype engineers had a running model based on the S5 that was about 500 pounds lighter than an R8. In a poll we ran with that news, nearly 61 percent of you said you'd be interested in buying a production version of the Quattro if it were cheaper than the R8. If a report in German magazine Auto Bild is to be believed, you 61-percenters could be in luck.

Remedy, a gaming development house with a small team assigned to a next-gen game, has stepped forward to say that next generation consoles are considered to be a 'quantum leap' over the Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3, leaving us to wonder just how much more delicious the graphics will be by the time the next generation consoles arrive in the market. Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, as mentioned earlier, are already working on a next-generation title, although as to which camp that title is headed to remains to be seen.

Hyundai Veloster getting summer tire option

During an event in Park City, Utah today, Hyundai Motor America President and CEO John Krafcik confirmed to Autoblog that the funky Veloster hatchback will be getting a new summer tire option. "We could do better in terms of tires [and] we had always planned to have a summer option," Krafcik told us. The higher-performance rubber – Michelin Pilot Super Sport 215x40ZR18 tires – offers substantial performance increases compared to the current car's Kumho Solus KH25 all-seasons. In skid pad lateral acceleration, Krafcik told us that the Michelins are good for 0.94 gs compared to 0.82 with the Kumhos.

Motorola XT907 launching at Verizon as the Droid M?

Motorola XT907 launching at Verizon as the Droid M?

While we're waiting for some official news on Verizon's Droid Razr HD, here are some important details on another smartphone that should be introduced by the largest US carrier soon: the Motorola XT907 (seen not long ago in a leaked photo) will be reportedly launched as the Motorola Droid M. This is according to a document unveiled by BGR, which also claims the Droid M will cost $149.99 with a new contract at Verizon. The handset could feature a qHD display, and a Kelvar back cover.
BGR seems to believe the XT907 Droid M is, in fact, the Droid Razr HD. But that's probably not true.

Apple releases Mountain Lion 10.8.2 build to devs, focuses on Facebook, iMessage and more

Shortly after letting the 10.8.1 Mountain Lion out of the bag, Cupertino's now released the next dotted version of its feline OS X to members of the developer community. According to the seed note, this early release will be focusing on a slew of social areas as well as other handy applications, including Facebook, Messages, Game Center, Reminders and, of course, the company's own web browser, Safari. As is usually the case with these young builds, Apple suggests you install it on a machine "you are prepared to erase if necessary," though something tells us you were already well aware of that.

Elevate Your Mousing – ROCCAT Sense High Precision Gaming Mousepad

I haven't used a mouse pad in years because my 6yr old Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse doesn't need one. That said, all I'm doing is normal stuff while surfing and writing. Gamers are more high maintenance than I am. They require a mouse pad like the Sense Chrome Blue High Precision Gaming Mousepad from Hamburg Germany based ROCCAT. This mouse pad is 400 x 280mm x 2mm high. It has a special microcrystalline coating which is incorporated into the fabric surface to provide frictional resistance between the mouse and the pad.

Live2D drawing technology from Cybernoids adds a little 3D spice to your hand drawn images

While 3D graphics have been filling our eyes in cinemas and video games way before Nemo ever got lost, we've typically had to settle for computer generated artwork. Live2D from Cybernoids is a drawing technology that hopes to change that. The software lets animators and game creators give hand drawn 2D images rudimentary 3D qualities. In the video above you can see the character turn her head, and the image - based solely on the 2D version - twists and adapts in real-time.

European HTC One S receives OTA update to ICS 4.0.4

We received a few reports that the European variant of the Krait-packing HTC One S is getting an over the air update. The new firmware brings Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 and the latest Sense version 4.1 to the HTC mid-range smartphone. As you may remember the bigger, quad-core, brother of the One S, the One X, got the same update about two weeks ago.
Sense 4.1 is a big improvement in terms of speed - there's no longer lag when using a live wallpaper, most of the app drawer 3D effects have been removed to speed things up even further and it's using a new kernel, which is faster all round.

Next generation iPhone cable with smaller connector spotted

We have seen images of the next generation iPhone in the past using a smaller version of the 30-pin dock connector that Apple has been using for so long. Now we have a photograph of a cable that goes perfectly with this new port, and it comes courtesy of a Twitter account that belongs to Jack Yao, who seemingly runs Veister, a website that sells mobile accessories (although they aren't selling this particular cable). The cable looks like a third party product rather than one of Apple's own.

University of Michigan connects 3,000 cars for year-long safety pilot

Road safety continues to be a major concern for both researchers and car makers alike. Yesterday saw yet another real-world trial kicking off, this time on a much grander scale. A total of 3,000 vehicles in Ann Arbor, Michigan are taking part in a 12-month project run by the state's Transportation Research Institute. The vehicles have Dedicated Short Range Communications and video recording facilities, which means the cars can communicate with each other, traffic signals, and share data to a central platform - which in turn issues warnings when high risk situations, or if traffic problems occur.

Bowers & Wilkins P3 Headphones Review

You have to hand it to Bowers & Wilkins. This British audio company makes some of the best sounding speakers anywhere and they charge handsomely for the privilege. But for some reason, when it comes to personal audio like headphones and earphones, they have become somewhat affordable. They don't charge anywhere near the stratospheric prices of some competing brands, and yet they manage to uphold a quality level worthy of their heritage. When B&W released the much admired P5 headphones, it became obvious that they were made for home or office listening and not commuting.
