Samsung takes the wraps off the Galaxy R smartphone

Samsung takes the wraps off the Galaxy R smartphone

Samsung has finally officially announced the Galaxy R smartphone. The phone had leaked a while back, known as the Galaxy Z back then and we even managed to do a hands-on with it but itÂ's only now that Samsung has come clean with it. The specifications are same as before. It will have a 4.2-inch Super Clear LCD, unlike the Super AMOLED Plus on the Galaxy S II. It will also be running on a dual-core processor. Although Samsung does not specifically mention which processor it is we know for a fact that it is the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset, which may not be as good as the Exynos but still packs a punch.

Speaking during an interview with IndustryGamers, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitello said that consoles currently only account for 40 percent of the games industry and that the iPad is the fastest growing platform.

Death app tells you about nearby deaths in your area

Part of a ghost hunting team and looking for new places to explore. Wish there was an app for that. Well, you're actually in luck. The folks over at MobileNationHQ recently came up with something called the Death app. As part of a demonstration to show how easy it was to create an app using MobileNationHQ's online app creator, the Death app was created in 8 hours and works on both iOS and Android devices (it's a web app).

Once a user runs the app, he/she can use it to find out the locations of recent deaths in the area. The app gives a description of what sort of death it is (car accident or murder) and marks it on the map.

Deja Vu intelligent bag

Deja Vu intelligent bag

The words Deja Vu is of French origin, where it means 'already seen' – well, MIT students Heidi Chen and Nicole Tariverdian decided to settle for Deja Vu as the moniker for their new intelligent bag. Why so, you ask. Surely there is a method and reason behind this move. Well, 'already seen' has been applied to the situation where the Deja Vu bag supposedly offers peace of mind to folks who have poor memory, and tend to leave their keys as well as other important items somewhere, someplace.

MSI GE620DX gaming notebook does quad core with processor

It doesn't really matter just how many cores a particular processor has if the programmer or software developer does not take full advantage of all the cores in their program. Well, at least it is comforting to know that you have more than one core to call upon if the situation calls for it where the MSI GE620DX gaming notebook is concerned. This notebook will come with USB 3.0 connectivity for lighting fast data transfer, alongside a GeForce GT 555M graphics chipset with 2GB of display memory.

DIY electric bicycle comes with three power modes

DIY electric bicycle comes with three power modes

Bicycles are supposed to be a healthy mode of transport to help you get around from one point to the other without emitting any more greenhouse gases than you should, while helping you break a sweat so that you can burn off that Whopper from Burger King you had for lunch earlier in the day. Well, sometimes you might feel too tired to cycle all the way back – which is where an electric bicycle comes in handy, as that particular mode of transport will have a small motor to ferry you across those steep uphill slopes as you take a break.

Samsung Galaxy S II sales hit five million

Samsung Galaxy S II sales hit five million

Samsung's Galaxy line of tablets and smartphones has been extremely successful so far and the company's brand new Galaxy S2 is no exception. According to Sammy Hub, Samsung has already shifted five million Galaxy S2 devices. Citing confirmation from Samsung itself, Sammy Hub says the company has shipped five million units to distributors. Though it's not as impressive as selling five million phones, it's still quite a feat, especially when you consider that the phone has yet to launch in the U.S.

Good news for Skype users with Windows computers - your favorite VoIP/instant messenger has just received a new update according to an official announcement on the Skype blog. Now at version 5.5, the latest version of Skype features a lot more Facebook integration. (I wouldn't be surprised if Skype started to drop its official blue for Facebook's darker shade of blue instead) which is unsurprising see how the two companies have been working a lot with each other in recent months. (Skype even helped to power the video calling feature within Facebook).

Sony PRS-T1 reader spotted at the FCC

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sony's VP of digital reading, Phil Lubell let slip that there is a new Sony reader in the works. The device which has been said to be a Kindle competitor should be making its way to the shelves come August, which is just shortly after the launch of Sony's S1 and S2 tablets. As it turns out, the reader was recently spotted at the FCC sporting the model PRS-T1. Unfortunately not much else is known about the device other than it has WiFi capabilities, although we're not sure if Sony has plans to make a 3G capable device as well.

Hackers discover a way to hack into your car's remote control app

There's so much technology out there nowadays when it comes to protecting our vehicles from theft. They range from more primitive methods of physically locking the steering wheel with a lock or to more complex systems where you can be alerted by SMS should your car's alarm go off. However with all that being said, it appears that even complicated systems that allow drivers to use their smartphones to start their cars can be hacked and let the car thieves do the same thing.

It's certainly been a while since Bang & Olufsen's given any love to its gorgeous (but pricey) BeoSound 5, but refining self-proclaimed perfection takes… well, about three years. The more affordable $3,350 BeoSound 5 Encore carries over the svelte 10.4-inch LCD / scroll wheel toting controller from its predecessor, but nixes the BeoMaster music server requirement, allowing it to run headless (and in turn save you bookodles of cash). So how does one play tunes if it rides solo.

Leaked silicone cases suggest thinner iPhone 5

Leaked silicone cases suggest thinner iPhone 5

A leaked crop of images from 9to5 Mac suggest the rumors that Apple will release a thinner and lighter iPhone 5 are true. The images display a silicone case that is certainly thinner than the current iPhone 4. However, the shape of the case is also strikingly similar to the body of the iPod touch, which has us wondering if the case pictured is actually for Apple's upcoming next-generation iPod touch and not the iPhone 5. Either way, 9to5 Mac says the photos are from a trusted source that leaked accurate information about the iPad 2.

New Motorola Atrix with 8MP camera and 1080p video recording coming to AT&T?

We're not quite sure what's going on here, but photos of a new Atrix-like Motorola Android smartphone have appeared somewhere in China, making us believe that AT&T is getting ready to introduce an upgraded version of the above-mentioned device. The unnamed handset looks a lot like the Atrix. However, on the back it flaunts an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, instead of a 5MP one with 720p video (like the original Atrix has). Also: there's no sign of the MotoBlur logo, the headset jack and power button have been repositioned, the AT&T logo has been moved above the display, and the earpiece has been redesigned.

…the company's German Facebook profile says August 5th. So either way, it's pretty imminent.

BookBook Case Makes Your iPhone Look Like a Tiny Tome

BookBook Case Makes Your iPhone Look Like a Tiny Tome

The BookBook case makes your iPhone look like a tacky fake leather-bound book. TwelveSouth has shrunken its BookBook MacBook case down to the size of an iPhone 4. It has also added a few pockets into which you can slot a couple of credit cards and your ID, along with a place for a few banknotes.
Unfortunately, the tackiness of the leather-bound book design has grown as its size has shrunk.

The BookBook is beautifully made. The leather is thick but not too heavy, the iPhone (or iPod Touch, if you must) fits snugly and the stitching is top notch.

UK retailer Comet is stocking a “new” Packard Bell branded Android Honeycomb tablet, with the 10.1″ 1280×800 Libertytab now on sale for £349.99. The Libertytab is yet another Tegra 2 powered device and it does indeed launch with the original 3.0 version of Google's tablet OS. We believe this is nothing more than a rebranded Acer Iconia Tab A500, although it's a bit more colourful. This colourful:

A decent price for a 10″ Honeycomb device and that actually looks half tasty with its angular, metallic finish. Sooner or later we're going to go crazy and actually buy one of these things.

T-Mobile G2X now free with contract through July 28

The T-Mobile G2X hasn't had the most issue-free existence, that's for sure. The Android-powered smartphone which is T-Mobile's version of the LG Optimus 2X was launched during CTIA, then pulled by T-Mobile because of some freezes and reboots that it was seeing alongside its internationally-launched sibling, the Optimus 2X. But now it's back in stock, and it's even been updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread (the update has become available earlier today, as we reported). The good news, therefore, is that the software issues seem to be behind the G2X.

Andy Pad maker promises future Ice Cream Sandwich update

The Andy Pad Twitter account has exploded back into life today, with the social account operative batting back answers to questions from many keen would-be buyers. Among the most common question is that of an upgrade path for the tablet's launch Android 2.3 software. On that subject Andy Pad has repeatedly said the 7″ tablet will NOT be getting an Android 3.X upgrade, but it will be receiving the future “Ice Cream Sandwich” OS upgrade – which we're expecting Google to release at the end of this year.
We're still not sure what version number will be attached to ICS.

Aside from capturing some of Jane’s Addiction’s set in full 3D glory (a 60-minute documentary of compiled concert footage will be available August 4th), I had the opportunity to get to know the Thrill 4G a bit better. Getting to the point, this phone is nearly identical to the Optimus 3D in every way. It features the same tri-dual package of dual-core (clocked at 1GHz), dual-channel, and dual-ram.

Stanford researchers create new transparent and flexible battery

We've seen featured transparent batteries before in the past, way back in 2007 in Japan, and now four years later we have a new transparent battery, this time created by the folks at Stanford University. A team of researchers from the university have managed to create a transparent lithium ion battery that is also highly flexible. Now why would anybody want a transparent, highly flexible battery. Well, you can imagine the possibilities that can be achieved with transparent batteries: transparent smartphones, tablets, watches or other mobile devices in the future, and let's not forget flexible screens that can be used with them as well.

Sony TX55 Digicam Comes On Like a Cellphone

Sony TX55 Digicam Comes On Like a Cellphone

It's easy to mistake Sony's new compact for a cellphone. Sony's new Cybershot point-and-shoot — the TX55 — is a weird little camera. It combines a tiny, slim body with a huge 3.3-inch screen (which takes up almost the entire rear of the camera) and a far-too-large 16.2MP sensor.
It also adds in enough photo-processing software to make older versions of photoshop look like pencil and paper.

The first gimmick is “By Pixel Super Resolution” and its sub-category, “Clear Image Zoom”. This is a 5x digital zoom, which comes in addition to the 5x optical zoom. I know what you're thinking.
