Eton FRX3 American Red Cross Emergency Radio review

Eton FRX3 American Red Cross Emergency Radio review

Unless I'm in the car, I don't listen to terrestrial, broadcast radio anymore.  At work I have satellite radio, and at home it's an iPod in a dock.  I haven't had a dedicated “AM/FM” radio in ages, but since I live in earthquake country (San Francisco Bay Area), I'm overdue.  Thank goodness the Eton FRX3 American Red Cross Emergency Radio landed in my lap.
The FRX3 American Red Cross Emergency Radio is part of Eton's lineup of preparedness-oriented products.  The first thing you notice is the folded crank on the front to recharge the internal battery.

Smart Herb Garden Grows Herbs, Vegetables Without Sun Or Soil

Smart Herb Garden Grows Herbs, Vegetables Without Sun Or Soil

Being able to grow a garden if you're a shut-in is pretty much impossible considering how much light plants need on a regular basis. But a new garden called the Smart Herb Garden may allow those of you who completely shun the daylight to finally be able to grow those “herbs” you've been dying to have. The Smart Herb Garden uses an LED growing lamp to grow your herbs and a few select vegetables without any need for that dastardly sun. All you need to do is snap in your plant cartridges, fill in the water reservoir, and sit back to have the Smart Herb Garden do all of the actual growing for you.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon is one hot hauler (video)

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon is one hot hauler (video)

Mentioned at the debut of the redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class back in January, Mercedes has finally pulled back the curtain on the E63 AMG S, which was on display at the New York Auto Show in wagon guise. The 2014 E63 AMG S ups the ante even more from a "base" E63 AMG, improving the car's performance and styling – not that it needed help with either to begin with. Our favorite S-model upgrade is the added output tweaked out of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, which represents a substantial gain of 27 hp and 59 lb-ft of torque over the stock E63.

2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is headed for US

Despite the fact that Daimler's press release doesn't mention this company by name, we have to assume that the 28-kWh lithium-ion battery in the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive comes from Tesla Motors. What Daimler is being much more clear about is that the B-Class EV is coming to the US earlier than you might expect, in early 2014. The car has a range of "around 115 miles" and is being unveiled today at the New York Auto Show. Last year, there was a hint that the electrified small Mercedes-Benz would have a range extender, but the information released today is all electric, all the time.

The instant camera goes digital with the Polaroid Socialmatic camera

The instant camera goes digital with the Polaroid Socialmatic camera

Most people my age and older have heard of Polaroid instant cameras, although they went out of style once digital photography became mainstream. Recently, Socialmatic LLC announced that they have an agreement with Polaroid to market a new-age instant camera, the Polaroid Socialmatic camera. This camera brings the old style of printing out photos directly from the camera into the digital age by allowing you to take a digital photograph, manipulate it with a variety of photo filters, and print it out (or share it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter) via its touch screen. The Socialmatic camera will utilize the Android operating system.

Blue Lamborghini Aventador flambées eyeballs on New York City school run

Regardless of how unsure we are of the back story in this video, we don't doubt how cool it would be to get picked up from [insert place here] in a Lamborghini Aventador. In this case, the driver says he picks up his former neighbor's daughter from New York-area high school in an Aventador, and with most of us heading to the Big Apple tomorrow for the New York Auto Show, we're wondering if this guy might be available to shuttle us from the airport to the hotel. It never hurts to ask. After picking her up, they then head for a quick tour of Times Square with a trio of GoPro cameras recording the whole thing...

Apple Acquires WiFiSLAM, An Indoor Navigation Company

A person familiar with the matter has revealed that Apple has purchased indoor navigation company WiFiSLAM. It has reportedly paid $20 million for the company based in Silicon Valley. An Apple spokesman did confirm that the company has made this purchase, and added that Apple does purchase smaller companies from time to time, but doesn't necessarily reveal what it plans to do with them. No further comment was made, and WiFiSLAM hasn't commented at all on the deal.

Budget iPhone Will Release In 2013 Without Retina Display [Rumor]

It's the end of a new week and we almost got away with not hearing another rumor for the budget iPhone Apple is reportedly currently working on. But, alas, another week is yet to be complete without a regular dose of a budget iPhone rumor, so let's just get this one out of the way, shall we. The budget iPhone Apple is reportedly in the process of creating will come with fewer bells and whistles than people originally anticipated. A recently published note to investors by RBC Capital Markets' Amit Daryanani says Apple is expected to launch “multiple new phones” between June and July of this year.

Ford of India in hot water for Figo celebrity bondage ads

Ford of India in hot water for Figo celebrity bondage ads

Apparently sensibilities in India, at least in the case of some Ford marketing partners, are downright lascivious at times. Case in point are a new series of print ads, presumably touting the vast cargo capacity of the Ford Figo hatchback, that involve more than a whiff of T&A, S&M and other sexy abbreviations. In all seriousness, the advertising campaign is taking some major heat in the Indian press for being outrageously sexist. All three images – which seem to be produced by a graphic artist with some Heavy Metal work in his/her portfolio – show bound and gagged people stuffed into the Figo's boot.

Jobs Biopic Starring Ashton Kutcher Release Delayed

Steve Jobs' Biopic, simply called “Jobs,” was expected to be released on April 19 to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the founding of Apple Computer. Unfortunately, it looks like the movie won't be released when it was originally intended to as Open Road Films has delayed the film's release. Open Road Films has yet to confirm a new date for Jobs to be released saying they wanted to have more time to market the film, although we think the Internet has given the film a healthy amount of promotion ever since it was first revealed such a film would exist.

When a new version of Android is pushed out, the question many Android users are probably asking is when will they get it. This wait time will depend on a few factors, such as how long it takes for their manufacturer to push it to their phones, and if you're living in the US and you're tied to a carrier contract, you will have to wait for the update to go through your carrier first before pushed onto your device.

Verizon To Adopt Pay What You Watch Only Model

It seems that Verizon has every intention of shouldering even more channels on its FiOS TV service, but they only want to fork out money for what their customers are watching at that point in time. According to the good people over at The Wall Street Journal, Verizon intends to pay the individual channels based on the number of “unique views” in a span of five minutes or higher that they rack up on a monthly basis, as compared to the mandatory monthly fees that each subscriber forks out with the current business model.

Nintendo Wii U Sales Only Reach 64,000 In February

It was just a few days ago when video game industry analyst Michael Pachter said he believed Nintendo only sold 80,000 Wii U consoles in February. Considering Pachter made some outrageous claims recently in regards to the next Xbox outselling the PlayStation 4 and Wii U this holiday season before we've even seen the console, it was expected by many Pachter may not know exactly what he's talking about. Fortunately for Nintendo, he was wrong with his prediction. Unfortunately for Nintendo, it was far less than 80,000.

BMW M4 sheds some camouflage for latest test run

Last time we saw the upcoming BMW M4 out testing, it was heavily clad with camouflage and decidedly homely looking (as most early development mules are). But in this latest set of photos, the M3 coupe successor has started to come into its own skin, and we're seeing a shape more closely akin to that of a rendering we brought you a few months back. Unsurprisingly, the M4 coupe looks very similar to the 4 Series Concept that BMW debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

Xerox Digital Nurse Assistant Offers Information On The Double

Xerox is a name that we would more often than not associate with that of digital copiers and photostat machines, but here we are with a system from Xerox that is capable of keeping track of both nurses as well as the medications which have been ordered for their patients. The system's core relies on a small digital tag which the nurse would wear, and that allows the system to recognize her whenever she enters a patient's room. All the patient's relevant medical information will then make an appearance on an in-room display, in addition to any specific data which requires attention.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Hands-On Review

After several months of rumors and speculation as to what exactly Samsung has been cooking up with its Galaxy S4, today they finally pulled back the veil of secrecy. And the results are certainly an impressive display of what the company believes is its future in the smartphone business as the Galaxy S4 is equipped with a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, a 13MP rear-facing camera and will run on Android 4.2.2. But that's not all as not only has the company gone all out with its Galaxy S4, but a new suite of first-party software is also being introduced to further expand on an already impressive showing of hardware.
