We've been keeping a close eye on the Sony Xperia Z ever since it was announced back at CES 2013. But that was back in January and a long time has passed since then. Arguably still one of the best — and most beautiful — Android devices to date, many have been wondering where the device stands on a US release, and if Sony has possibly missed their window of opportunity by failing to release before fierce competition like the Samsung Galaxy S4, and HTC One.

Williams F1 to run Mercedes engines next season

The game of Formula One musical engine bays continues with the announcement that Williams F1 has signed a long-term deal to switch to Mercedes engines from 2014, bringing Williams' partnership with Renault to a close after just two years. Williams will get the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 and KERS from Mercedes, but will use an in-house gearbox. At the moment, that means four teams will have its engines supplied by Mercedes: its own team, Williams, Force India and McLaren, but at the end of 2014 McLaren will switch to Honda.

Make no mistake, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is one pretty smartphone. Be that as it may, I don't think anyone would make the argue against the fact that the inspiration behind the design of the device was clearly the already successful Samsung Galaxy S3. Naysayers will be quick to point out that, to the untrained eye, it really is hard to tell the difference between the two. It's been said Samsung stuck with what they knew, and because of their new found popularity, didn't want to risk losing brand recognition by adopting an entirely new design for the S4. Fine. We get it. Apple's been doing that for years and it worked out fine for them.

The crew from Electric Federal recently sat down with Dick Guldstrand to discuss the builder's favorite creation. Guldstrand grew up during the glory days of the California hot rod scene and made a name for himself racing and building Chevrolet Corvette bruisers. In the early '90s, he became dismayed at rumors that General Motors was considering cancelling the sports car. In order to stoke a little excitement, Guldstrand picked up a 475-horsepower Corvette ZR-1 and let designer Steve Winter loose on the car.

According to an unnamed HTC executive, roughly 5 million HTC Ones have been sold since the device first hit the market in late March. Rumor has it that Sony is working on two smartphones which it is expected to release some time this year. Back at the Mobile World Congress in February, the company was expected to announce a 6.44 inch full HD display “phablet” which carried the codename Togari, but we haven't heard much about that device since then. Rumor has it that as part of its “One Sony” branding campaign, the company will be releasing a smartphone that features Sony's top technologies. The announcement is expected at IFA Trade Show, which takes place in September.
